Have we ever thought why our parents and teachers always insist on having a healthy food? Healthy food is one of the most important parts in leading a healthy life. Combined with physical activity, a balanced diet can help us to reach and maintain a healthy weight. Healthy food habits can reduce the risk of lifestyle diseases like cancer and diabetes.

However, it is worrying that obesity among children is growing worldwide. For six to seven- year-old children, the rate of obesity increased from four percent in the seventies to a staggering eighteen percent in 2016. One of the key factors which contributed to this shocking trend is bad food habits and the increasing fascination towards junk food. Children who are overweight or obese are more likely to be obese adults. Being overweight or obese can put children at a higher risk of health problems such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes among others during childhood and as they age.

The famous proverb "Health is wealth" reminds us about the importance of good health.. Healthy eating habits is one of the vital parts in achieving good health. We should always try to take a balanced diet that contains the correct proportions of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water. We should include more vegetables which provide nutrients vital for health and maintenance of the body.

SECTION C: COMPREHENSION (8 Marks)
Read the passage below and then answer the questions that follow.
I had read about the shrinking forest cover in Kenya. When I joined the environmental club, I wondered whether what we did in the club was actually helpful. But that is history now.

Our club patron organised a meeting for us with the national forest conservation team. We are going to come up with ways to spread important information about forest conservation.

We have shared the work among four groups in our club. The school is now abuzz with activities. With our patron's help, we are also doing online research.

Two groups are working on videos. One of the groups will prepare a short thirty-second video with important messages on forest conservation. The second group will record a song on forests. They have come up with a beautiful four-stanza song praising the benefits of forests and explaining how we can conserve them.
The third group will prepare posters that show how forests benefit us. The fourth group is preparing charts that show the extent of forest cover in different parts of the country and the benefits of trees.

All of these methods can be useful in conveying information. We hope that when we launch this campaign, we shall get good results.

Read the passage below and then answer the questions that follow.
Long time ago, there lived a mighty warrior among the Luo community. His name was Lwanda Magere, which means the 'fierce rock'. He was born in the year 1720 in the Sidho clan in Kano, along the shores of lake Victoria.

When Lwanda Magere became a man, he realised that he had supernatural powers. His skin was made of stone. No spear, club, sword or weapon of any kind could harm him. This made him invincible during wars. He was famously known for defeating a whole army single- handedly.

The traditional enemies of the Luo at the time were the Nandi. The Nandi were so afraid of the mighty Lwanda Magere that whenever they heard that he was on the battlefield, they ran back to their land in fright. It reached a point where the Nandi almost gave up as they did not know how to defeat Lwanda Magere.

The Nandi elders sat down and discussed the issue for a long time. At last, they came up with a plan. They would give Lwanda Magere their most beautiful girl to marry. They claimed it was a gesture of peace. In reality, the girl's role was to find out how the great warrior could be defeated. The Luo elders smelt a rat and advised Lwanda not to marry the girl. However, he did not heed their advice.

It happened that whenever Lwanda Magere got sick, his first wife would care for him. One day, he fell sick when his first wife was away. He therefore, called his young Nandi wife to bring him some medicine. He instructed her to cut his shadow and administer the medicine. She was shocked to see his shadow bleed. That night, she crept out of Lwanda Magere's home and ran back to her people. She was received with joy when she said that her husband's life was in his shadow.
The news quickly spread. The Nandi prepared to attack. They knew that the Luo would not be expecting them. After all, Lwanda Magere had married one of their girls, making them kinsmen. However, when the Nandi attacked, the Luo fought back fiercely. Lwanda Magere killed many Nandi warriors. In the middle of the war, one Nandi warrior crept near Lwanda Magere, raised his spear and sank it deep into Lwanda Magere's shadow. Lwanda Magere immediately fell down and died. His body turned into a stone. The stone is there to this day and is a major tourist attraction site.
