Q1.

  1. Give reasons why Quran was revealed in Arabic                            (7mks)
    The prophet was an Arab hence the need to read and understand it before translating it
    To ease communication with the audience who were Arabs
    To challenge the eloquent Arabs to produce the like of it
    The Arabic language is rich in vocabulary
    The audience of the Quran were Arabs thus the need to understand it for them to accept it
    Being an apathy language few words could capture broad message
    For easy understanding
    For easy memorization
    Arabic language is sweet, enhancing and melodious
  2. Give reasons why the nature of revelation changed from short in Makkah to long in Madina
    In Makkah revelation was addressing a smaller community in Madina revelation was addressing larger community
    The themes in Makkah were few i.e Tawheed, denounced shirk etc while in Madina the Makkah themes remained but broader themes were introduced on complex issues e.g Muamalat, spiritual issues, law and legislations
    Revelations in Makkah was addressing an ignorant community while Madina revelation was addressing as enlightened community with an established faith.
  3. Outline the conditions to be adhered to for translation of Quran to be valid (7mks)
    Should have mastery of the Arabic language, syntax, grammar and literature for clear understanding of the text
    Translator should be a Muslim with a strong faith
    Must have a mastery of Ulumul Quran
    Must be well versed in Ulmul Hadith to explain the Quran
    Should be well versed with history of the prophet to guide on circumstances of revelation
    Should be well reserved in ulmul figh
    Should have a good mastery of both languages
    Should consider works of the Tabii( follower of Sahaba)
    Should make reference to explanations of Sahaba
    Should look into the views and reasoning of eminent Muslim scholars

    The Quran was revealed through Angel Jibril while Hadith Qudsi were inspired in a dream
    Quran is the 1st source of sharia while hadith qudsi is the second source
    When quoting Quran one must be exact while when quoting hadith qudsi the meaning can be paraphrased
    Content of the Quran covers all aspects of life while Hadith Qudsi covers only specific issues- devotional acts

    Hadith were subjected to critical investigations on chain of transmission

    Shirkul Dua- involves supplicating/praying to other being besides Allah
    Shirkul Niya- Intending /purposing acts of worshipping to others instead of Allah
    Shirkul Mahabbah- ascribing love due to Allah to other beings
    Shirkul Twa’a-rendering obedience for Allah to other creatures
  2. Outline the effects of beliefs in the last day to the life of a Muslim (6mks)
    Helps one avoid evils for the fear of wrath of Allah
    Makes one do good deeds as to get the best of both worlds
    Gives a Muslims a chance to mend their ways as to have a clean records
    This belief installs the fear of God in a Muslim
    Belief in the last day strengthens the belief in Allah
  3. Give the importance on belief in Qadar and Qadha
    Makes man contented, devoted and trustful in Allah

    It helps to console man in times of difficulties and calamities
    It strengthens the conviction of Allah in determining what befalls man
    It motivates man to fulfill their religious obligations
    It reminds us always that Allah is the absolute master and controller of the universe

  1. Differentiate between Sijdatu Shukr and Sijdatul Swalah (6mks)
    Sijdatul shukr has no defined dua one expreses their gratitude in the Sijda while Sijdatul Swalah has a well defined dua subhana rabbi al aala wa binamdihi
    Sijdatul shukr one prostrates once while sijdatul swalah prostrate twice
    Sijdatul shukr can be optional while Sijdatul Swalah is an integral part of swala
    One can perform Sijdatuul Shukr in any state not necessary when with Wudhu while Sijdatul swala one must have Wudhu to perform it.
    Sijdatul Shukr one can face any direction while Sijdatul Swala one must face Kibla
  2. Describe the performance of Hajji (8mks)
    8th dhulhijja- pilgrim takes a bath puts on ihram and makes the intention of performe hajji
    9th dhuhijja- after fajr pilgrims proceed to the plain of Arafat
    10th dhuhijja- jamarat aqaba
    Slaughtering offering a sacrificial animal
    Shaving of the head
    Tawatul ifadha
    11th -13th dhulhijja- jamaratu; wusta
    (saayi (brisk walk between Swafa wal marwa)
    tawaful widaa
  3.  Explain the reasons that led to the emergence of schools of thought (7mks)
    Different jurists came from different geographical places with different customs and practices
    Different schools attitudes towards understanding and accepting hadith
    Different imams had values attached to the various sources of law
    Imams accepted and applied different facilities of reasoning in deducing laws
    Different in linguistic interpretations of certain versions of the Quran and hadith
    Emergence of new matters as Islam expanded which legal injunctions
    The need to simplify Quran and Hadith for easy understanding as primary sources
    Expansion of Muslim empire thus varied culture and customs

    Establishing agencies/ organization in charge of collection zakat

    Makruh – acts are abominable, improper and offensive
    Sahih and Batil- acts which are right because e of fulfilment of conditions necessary or wrong for failure to meet
  3. State the relevance of Islamic criminal law (6mks)
    It guarantees maintenance of law and order in the community
    Ensures that justice prevails where by those quality are punished
    Refers future potential criminal from committing the crime
    It gave criminals an opportunity to form re jail
    Its fair and just as the punishment meets the standards
    Rulings gives satisfactions thus people don’t take matters into their own hands.
