- At the crossing of Red Sea, God instructed Moses to hold his rod over the sea and the water divided, the Israelites crossed but the Egyptian soldiers who had pursued them drowned.
- God provide the Israelites with water to drink at Marah at Mt. Sinai.
- God provided with quails and manna for them to eat when they complained about the lack of food.
- When they were attacked by the Amalekites who were hostile desert tribe, God gave the Israelites victory over them.
- God guided them through a cloud of smoke by day and a pillar of fire at night throughout the journey.
- God gave them the Ten Commandments to guide them on the right relationship with God and one another.
- God entered into a covenant relationship with the Israelites in order to continue with His plan of salvation.
- God forgave them when they broke the covenant and gave them a new set of the Ten Commandments.

- Describe how the people of Judah renewed their covenant with God under the leadership of Ezra. (8 mks)
- The covenant renewal ceremony was held in Jerusalem in the seventh month of the Jewish calendar.
- It was led by Levites (priests) including Ezra who was a priest and scribe.
- A great public assembly was held in the square inside the water gate in Jerusalem.
- Ezra and the Levites read the law aloud and expounded it to the people.
- The people worshipped/ praised God and cried out in guilt when the law was explained.
- Ezra, Nehemiah and the Levites calmed them down.
- They were instructed to return to their homes and celebrate.
- They feasted and observed the feast of booths (tabernacles) for seven days.
- A public confession of sin was also carried out in a solemn ceremony.
- The renewal of the covenant vows to keep Gods laws in future followed.
- The people repented of their sins and the leaders sealed by signing the agreement.

- With reference to Nehemiah’s final reforms give lessons that modern Christians leaders can learn. (6 marks)
- Modern Christian leaders should advocate for the observance of the Sabbath, just like Nehemiah ensured that the Sabbath law was kept.
- Modern Christian leaders should encourage members to marry from the same denomination or people who profess the same faith.
- The church should only be used on dedicated to religious activities like prayer e.g. Nehemiah cleansed the temple which had been defiled.
- Church leaders/workers should be paid their dues to discourage them from engaging in other activities and reflecting their religious duties of Nehemiah. He ordered that the Levites and temple musicians be reinstated to their rightful position and be paid.
- Church leaders should enforce the law just as Nehemiah did i.e. throw out Tobiah, beating up the Israelite men who had married foreign wives.
- Modern church leaders should pray while carrying out their duties/work just like Nehemiah prayed before carrying out any duties/work just like Nehemiah prayed before carrying out any reforms.
- Modern church leaders should expect opposition while carrying out their duties e.g Nehemiah encountered opposition in his attempt to separate the Israelites men from their foreign wives.
- Modern church leaders should seek God’s guidance in all their endeavors just like Nehemiah did.

- Through folk stories (tales, myths).
- Through proverbs, riddles, parables, maxims and wise sayings so as to think for themselves and to reason out.
- Through practical involvement, actual participation (e.g. the Youth accompanying, working with older people in order to learn how certain duties are done.
- Through dramatization/role-playing.
- Through questions and answers in order to find out whether the children have learnt.
- Through apprenticeship in specialized areas (e.g. Blacksmiths, rainmakers, herbalists).
- Assignments: when the youth are given work to do under supervision of older members of the community who correct their mistakes.
- Through peer group e.g. age groups where members learnt from one another.
- Through lectures; lectures were given by older people on such topics as their responsibilities, traditions and customs.
- Through songs and dances; songs carry messages, moral lessons and through dance they learned cultural heritage and skills.
