  1. Round off 38679 to the nearest ten thousand ( 1mk.)
  2. A bookstore had 30816 exercise books which were packed in cartons. Each carton contained 24 exercise books . The mass of an empty carton was 2kg and a full carton 12kg.
    1. How many cartons were there? (2mk)
    2. What was the total mass of the empty cartons? (2mks)
    3. What was the total mass of the books alone? (2mks)
  3. Work out (3mks)
    4+(-2)-3+5-(-7)
  4. Express 113400 as a product of its prime factors. (2mks)
  5. Three masses of sugar are grouped into 0.36 kg, 0.504kg and 0.672 kg. Find the greatest mass of sugar that can be taken an exact number of times from the three masses. (Give your answer in kg) (3mks)
  6. Find the greatest number which can divide 181 and 236 leaving a remainder of 5 in each case (3mks)
  7. The GCD of two numbers is 30 and their LCM is 900. If one of the number is 60 . What is the other possible number? (3mks)
  8. Work out the following using a number line.
    1. (-7)+(-2)+(+6) (2mks)
    2. (-9)-(+12) (2mks)
  9. A man was born in 1966. His father was born in 1928 and the mother three years later. If the man’s daughter was born in 1992 and the son five years earlier, find the difference between the age of the man’s mother and that of his son. (3mks)
  10. Use the divisibility test to test whether 97410 is divisible by 8. (2mks)

    1. How many cartons were there? (2mk)
      • 30816/24=1284
    2. What was the total mass of the empty cartons? (2mks)
      • 1284 x 2=2568
    3. What was the total mass of the books alone? (2mks)
      • 12-2=10kg
        1284 x 10=12840kg
  3. Work out (3mks)
    4+(-2)-3+5-(-7)
    4-2-3+5--7
    4-5+5+7
    =4+7
    =11
  4. Express 113400 as a product of its prime factors. (2mks)
    • 2x2x2x3x3x3x3x5x5x7

    30 x x/30 x 2=900
    2x=900

    It is not divisible by 8 since the blast 3 digits are not divisible by 8
