My dad is a soldier. He goes to training camp every few months. I don't like when he go to the camp because I do not get to see him for a long time. When my dad does come home, he always surprises me. Today, I was at my Spelling Bee at school. I was nervous because I was not a very good word speller. When it was my turn, I stood up. My teacher said," Melissa, your word is grateful I thought I could never spell that. I was about to give up when I saw my dad in the crowd. He gave me two thumbs up. So, I did my best and spelled 'g-r-a-t-e-f-u-l just for him.

He got right back up and started climbing again. This time he made it to the top!

TASK I:LISTENING AND SPEAKING
Instructions to the teacher
- Inform all learners that the task will be a face-to-face assessment. Call learners into the assessment room when their time comes
(one after the other). - Give a seat to the learner facing you.
- At the beginning of Task 1, explain the expectations of the task
- Ask the questions provided in Task
- Indicate the end of Task 1
- Assess and record the competency of each leamer.
Tell the learner:
"We will role playa conversation between you and me and ensure you respond during your turn" (Teacher ats)
Lead the dialogue and have provoking content for learners with difficulty to enable them to resond smoothly.
TASK #: READING ALOUD
Instructions to the teacher
- Explains to the learner the expectations of Task II
- Every learner should be provided with a copy of the passage.
- As the learner reads aloud, listen to the learner and time him/her for one minute.
- Indicate with a stroke (√) the point where the learner reaches in the passage at the end of one minute.
- Allow the learner to continue reading to the end of the passage.
- Underline all the words the learner could not read correctly or had difficulty pronouncing.
- Indicate on the scoring guide the number of words the learner read correctly (total number of words read within one minute minus the words read with
errors)." - Assess and record the competency of the learner based on the assessment rubrie provided.
- Have an assessment sheet for each learner for Task II
