Anhydrous calcium chloride is Hygroscopic in nature. Hygroscopic substances are those substances which absorb or adsorb water. Therefore, hygroscopic substances are kept in air tight containers. So, if anhydrous calcium chloride is exposed to the atmosphere for abut two days, it absorbs water from air.
