In the soil where there is a film of water the root will absorb water making them highly concentrated with water compared to the adjust cells .The adjust cells will draw water through osmosis they then be highly concentrated compared to the next adjust cells and the cycle will continue till water reaches the xylem.in the xylem water will be transported to the rest of the parts of the plant .

Root hair absorb water by osmosis, the cellsap in the vacuole of root hair cell has  high  concentration of salt. Due to this concentration gradient water move by osmosis

Water moves from the soilto the root hairs through osmosis since cell sap concentration in root hair is greater than water in the soil thus the cell sap in the root hair is diluted making it less concentrated than the neighbouring cells water therefore moves to the neighbouring cells
