I remember the day very clearly. Our Science and Technology teacher told us that the world would be celebrating the World Environment Day. As members of the Environmental Club, our teacher told us we would help in cleaning up our local market. Mrs Otembo was our club patron.
"We shall join learners from other schools in cleaning the market. A few adults will also join us," she told during our club meeting. We liked Mrs Otembo a lot. She always reminded us to keep our bodies clean. "Ensure you wash your body every day. Brush your teeth after every meal. Wear clean clothes always. Remember to keep your body clean. You will gain a lot from doing so," she would tell us. She said that a healthy mind lives in a healthy body. Learners in our school always listened to her. It was our turn to help the community live in a clean environment. That morning, before the clean-up started, the local chier had addressed us.
"We are happy that learners from primary schools nearby have joined us today, it is true that if everyone swept their pavement clean, the whole street would be clean.
Today, we are cleaning the market. We hope the residents will keep the environment clean all the time," the chief said. Everyone clapped for the chief for the speech.

One Saturday morning, Miriam was left to take care of her brother, David. While in the bedroom, Miriam saw a razorblade on the floor. She decided to use it to shave David's hair, which was looking untidy. David sat down to have his hair cut. Miriam was not a barber and had never cut anybody's hair before.
As she continued, the boy moved his head suddenly. Miriam's hand slipped and she cut David on the side of the head. David began bleeding. The cut was not deep and after Miriam cleaned it, she
covered it with cotton wool.
David then saw a pair of scissors on the bed. He decided to use it to cut shapes on the bedcover. Miriam was shocked. This meant that both would be in trouble with her mother. She took a needle and thread from a drawer and started sewing the bedcover. As she was doing so, she pierced her finger with the needle. She screamed. She felt a lot of pain. Her finger was bleeding. The blood was on the bedcover.
At this point, Miriam's mother arrived. She found the blood on the bedcover and asked the children what had happened. David's head had patches of hair. The two children were taken to the hospital. They were both given injections. The doctor said they were lucky as the razor blade and
needle had not been used before.
