MARKING SCHEME
- SIGHT READING TEST (10 marks)
- Award 2 marks for each bar accurately performed (pitch and rhythm). (8 marks)
- award full mark for correctly performed bar
- award only I mark per bar if rhythm is wrong
- no mark for wrong pitch (rhythm not to be considered if pitch is wrong)
- progressively (award 1 mark for correct half bar)
- Award1⁄2 mark for correct interpretation of time signature
- Fluency and consistency (continuous flow without undue lapses allow only one repeat for full marks)
- Special performance instructions/directions.(slurs, dynamics, phrases, staccato etc). Total (10 marks)

- WESTERN SET PIECE (Voice or Instrument) (15 marks)
- Correct key as prescribed

The candidate should explain the source and the background of the song, dance or instrument of choice, failure to which the examiner will solicit for the information from the candidate.
