Marking Scheme

  1.  
    1. Isaiah's prophecy on the suffering servant.
      1. The servant will succeed in his work/will be highly honoured
      2. His success/honour will surprise many who have witnessed his suffering
      3. He will be despised/rejected/ignored by those who are with him.
      4. He will have nothing attractive/will be ordinary/simple 
      5. He will be harshly treated/arrested/ wounded/a man of sorrow
      6. His body will be buried with the bodies of rich men/His grave will be made with the wicked
      7. He will endure all that is done to him in silence.
      8. The servant will suffer for the sake of others/for our sins. 
      9. Through his suffering human beings are reconciled to God.
      10. It is the will of God for the servant to suffer.
      11. His death will bring forgiveness of sin.
      12. He will be sentenced to death/ killed. 
      13. Through his suffering human beings all be healed/made whole.  ANY 8 (8 marks)
    2. Ways in which the birth of Jesus was an extraordinary event.
      1. The conception of Jesus was through the power of the Holy Spirit.
      2. Jesus was born of a virgin
      3. His birth was announced by angel Gabriel.
      4. His name was given before his birth/ His name was given by an Angel.
      5. He was to be called the son of the most High God.
      6. He would be holy. 
      7. He would have an everlasting kingdom.
      8. When he was born, an Angel appeared to the shepherds to announce his birth/a multitude of Angels sang songs of praise.      ANY 6 (6 marks)
    3. Lessons Christians learn from the parents of John the Baptist.
      1. Christians should obey God's commandments. 16 Faith in God
      2. They should be patient./persevere
      3. Christians should be prayerful.
      4. Christians should lead holy lives/be upright righteous 
      5. Christians should desire to be led by the Holy Spirit.
      6. Christians should have faith in God/believe in God's word.
      7. Christians should serve God irrespective of their circumstances.
      8. Christians learn that doubting God's word can lead to punishment.
      9. They should praise/worship the Lord/be thankful/ grateful.

  2.  
    1. Reasons why Jesus was rejected in Nazareth.
      1. Jesus claimed to be the messiah fulfilling Isaiah's prophecy.
      2. Jesus did not perform miracles in Nazareth as he had performed in Capernaum.
      3. He annoyed the listeners by telling them that their forefathers had rejected/persecuted the prophets of God. 4 good news he
      4. He told the people that since they had rejected the good news it would be given to the Gentiles. 
      5. The Jews in Nazareth were annoyed when Jesus compared them unfavourably with the Gentiles.  
      6. He told them that no prophet is accepted in his own home town.
        FIRST 5 (5x 1)= 5 marks
    2. The incident in which Jesus healed the Centurion's servant. (Luke 7:1-10). 
      1. Jesus entered the town of Capernaum.
      2. A centurion had a very sick servant/heard that Jesus was in the town. 
    3. Identify eight ways through which the Church is continuing with the healing ministry of Jesus.
      1. Through donating blood/other organs to save lives.
  3.  
    1.  The triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem (Luke 19:28-40)
      1. Jesus was passing through Bethphage/Bethany/the Mount of Olives.
      2. He sent two of his disciples to get him a colt that had not been sat on.
      3. He told them that if the owner of the colt asked them why they were untying it they were to say that the lord needed it.
      4. The disciples brought the colt/they threw their garments on it/set Jesus upon it.
      5. As Jesus rode on, the people spread their garments on the road.
      6. The multitude began to rejoice/praise God for the mighty works they had seen/blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord.
      7. Some Pharisees told Jesus to silence the disciples.
      8. Jesus told them that if the disciples were to be quiet, then the stones would cry out.
      9. The owner of the colt sought to know where it was being taken.

    2. Events that took place from the time Jesus was arrested up to the time he was sentenced to death.
      1. Jesus was taken to the house of the high priest.
      2. Peter denied Jesus three times.
      3. Jesus was mocked beaten/blind folded.
      4. Jesus was taken to the Sanhedrin/they made religions accusations against him
      5. Jesus was taken to Pilate/they made political accusations
      6. He was sent to Herod who questioned/ridiculed him.
      7. Jesus was taken back to Pilate/Pilate said that he had not found Jesus guilty.
      8. Pilate had Jesus flogged/beaten.
      9. The crowd shouted that Jesus should be crucified/demanded for the release of Barabbas.
      10. Pilate surrendered Jesus to be crucified.

    3. Lessons Christians learn from the suffering and death of Jesus. 
      1. Christians should have faith in God
      2. They should be courageous/brave.
      3. They should endure suffering/be ready to be rejected.
      4. They should be prayerful/pray for others.
      5. They should forgive their enemies/others.
      6. Christians should sacrifice for the service of others.
      7. Christians should confess/repent from sin.
      8. They should be obedient/loyal to God.
      9. Christians should practice justice/be fair. 
      10. They should witness/surrender to the lordship of Christ.

    1. What Peter said about Jesus on the day of Pentecost
      1. Jesus had sent the Holy Spirit as a fulfillment of Joel's
      2. Jesus was the son of God.
      3. Jesus performed mighty wonders/deeds through the power of miracles.
      4. Jesus death was the will of God.
      5. God had raised him from death.
      6. He has been exalted in heaven/seated at the right hand of God.
      7. Jesus is Lord/Christ/Messiah.
      8. Jesus was a descendant of David.
      9. Jesus was from Nazareth.
      10. He was killed by lawless men/crucified.

    2. How the unity of believers is expressed in the concept of the vine and the branches.
      1. God is the Vine dresser/gardener.
      2. Jesus is the true vine 
      3. Christians followers are the branches.
      4. Christians are related to God through Jesus.
      5. The unfaithful Christians are like unfruitful branches which are destroyed 
      6. The faithful Christians are like fruitful branches that are pruned so as to produce more fruits.
      7. Just like the branch, Christians can only bear fruit if they remain in Christ for spiritual nourishment
      8. Through Jesus all Christians are united.
      9. Christians are called to rely on Jesus for providence/God's love is passed to them through Jesus Christ.
      10. Christians are called to obey God's command/remain faithful to bear more fruit/be productive.

    3. Reasons why Christians in Kenya should work in Unity. 
      1. Christians should work in unity to serve as role models/be examples to be emulated.
      2. In order to promote oneness in Christ.
      3. In order to realise effective ministry/evangelism
      4. So that they can have a common stand in dealing with issues that affect the society/promote development. 
      5. To share the scarce resources/minimize expenses.
      6. In order to adapt a common attitude towards the integration of African culture into worship.
      7. To prevent the germination of splinter groups/cults/sects.
      8. So as to emulate the unity of the early church/the trinity.

    1. Causes of homosexuality in Kenya today.
      1. There is permisșiveness in the society./ moral decadence
      2. Due to lack of self-control
      3. Lack of guidance and counseling.
      4. Peer pressure/bad company.
      5. Due to drug and substance abuse.
      6. Due to confinement of people of the same gender for a long 
      7. Poverty/lack of basic necessities.
      8. Due to Western influence.
      9. Erosion of traditional African norms.
      10. Due to influence from pornographic materials/mass media

    2. Similarities between traditional African and Christian understanding of marriage.
      1. In both marriage is ordained by God/sacred.
      2. In both marriage is meant for procreation. 
      3. In both marriage creates a new bond of relationship covenant.
      4. In both it promotes the social status of those who enter it.
      5. In both marriage should be permanent.
      6. It is a communal/social affair in both
      7. Marriage is for mutual love/companionship in both.
      8. In both remarriage is encouraged after the death of a spouse.
      9. In both the husband & wife should give conjugal rights to each
      10. In both marriage is between man & woman

    3. The effects of divorce on children in Kenya today.
      1. It leads to loss of parental love/care.
      2. The children suffer emotional imbalance.
      3. It may lead to street children/destitutes.
      4. It may lead to children dropping out of school.
      5. The children might engage in crime/prostitution.
      6. It can lead to child abuse/labour.
      7. It can lead to child marriages/teenage pregnancies
      8. It leads to poverty in the family/lack of basic needs.
      9. It can lead to children getting diseases/death.
      10. It leads to stigma/disgrace on the child.

  6.  
    1. Traditional African understanding of wealth.
      1. Wealth is a gift from God.
      2. Wealth is measured in terms of land/livestock/wives/children.
      3. Wealth raises the status of an individual.
      4. Wealth is to be inherited by members of the family.
      5. The wealthy should share/help those who do not have.
      6. There are guidelines on how to acquire wealth/through fair means.
      7. Wealth is owned by men.
      8. Wealth is acquired through hard work/laziness is condemned.

    2. Causes of bribery and corruption in Kenya today.
      1. Unemployment - a person seeking employment may give a bribe to be offered a job.
      2. Poverty - a person may give/receive bribes to obtain favour.
      3. Greed for wealth – the desire to get rich quickly may make some people to ask for bribes in order to discharge their duties.
      4. Greed for power – some people give bribes to get promotion/leadership positions.
      5. Lack of morals – poor upbringing/lack of a firm foundation in moral values makes some people to easily accept/give a
      6. Ignorance - some people may not know their right to be given certain services hence give bribes unknowingly.
      7. Fear – people who have committed crime may bribe the authority to escape punishment.
      8. To overcome shame - a person may give a bribe to guard his/her reputation.
      9. Justice system - the process of getting justice is slow/long hence people give bribes for a short cut/hasten the process.

    3. Reasons why a Christian family should discuss its budget.
      1. To avoid running into debts by over spending of the family resources.
      2. To encourage members of the family to work hard to meet their budget.
      3. To be able to allocate funds according to their priorities.
      4. To avert/prevent suspicion/misunderstanding quarrels in the family.
      5. To assist members of the family to be realistic in their needs/eliminate selfishness.
      6. To help members of the family to plan for the future/make savings.
      7. To promote transparency/honesty/accountability among members of the family.
