Instructions to Candidates
- There are ten stations in this examination.
- Candidates are allowed 15minutes at each station.
- At each station candidates are not allowed to either review the previous stations work or read instructions for other stations.
- Attempt all exercises in each station.
- All dimensions are in millimeters unless otherwise stated.
STATION I
Instructions
The figure below shows an assembly of an aircraft single acting actuator.
- On the drawing paper provided sketch in good proportion the cross section view of the actuator and label four parts. (10 marks)
STATION 2
Instructions
Using the tools, materials and equipment provided, make the aircraft cargo door handle as shown in the figure 2 below. (10 marks)

Instructions
Using the tools, equipment and materials provided carry out the following tasks:
- Strip one end of the provided cable to expose about 8mm of each of the layer on the cable provided. Let the examiner check your work. (2 marks)

- Identify the types of cable. (2 marks)
- Sketch and label the cable as exposed after stripping. (2 marks)
- State the application of the cable in aircraft. (1 mark)
- Tin the electrical cable provided and soldier the tinned end to the circuit board. Let the examiner check your work. (2 marks)
- State two reasons for using the soldiering flux provided when soldiering. (1 mark)

- Top diameter across engine centre line. (1 mark)
- Bottom diameter along the engine centre line. (1 mark)

- On the aircraft bolt provided measure the following: (1 mark)

- Shank diameter

STATION 6
Instructions
Provided is the aero piston engine models and components. Study the model and components then answer the questions below.
- Identify the components labeled as 1-4 and state their functions. (4 marks)

- Rotate the engine model labeled as X slowly in a clockwise direction as viewed from front for TWO complete revolutions.
- State the observations made for each stroke. (2 marks)

Study the set up marked and perform the following tasks:
- Displace the weight from the centre to stopper and release it. Record the number of oscillations in a minute. (2 marks)
- Shorten the string to the length of 150 mm and repeat the exercise. Record your observations in cases: (2 marks)
- State the reason behind your observations in (a) and (b). (2 marks)
- Relate your observations in (a) and (b) to aircraft in flight. (2 marks)
- State the effect of the observation in both cases to an aircraft in a bank. (2 marks)

- Give one reason as to why the component is twisted towards the end labeled as C. (2 marks)
- Identify the method of ice protection suitable for the component during flight. (1 mark)
