Ni nadra sana kwa siku kumalizika bila kusikia habari za maovu kama vile ubakaji, mauaji, wizi, utapeli, vita na kadhalika. Wengi wamekuwa wakijisaili mara kwa mara ili kupata suluhu. Kuwategemea maafisa wa polisi nako kumekuwa kazi ya bure bilashi. Hii ni kwa kuwa polisi wenyewe nao wana matatizo yaliyowazidi nguvu. Kuna nyakati ambapo polisi huwafyatulia risasi na kuwaua raia wanaofaa kuwalinda. Ajabu iliyoje! Nyakati zingine, maafisa wa usalama huwaua jamaa zao na kujiua wao wenyewe. A tense Adhiambo leant on the marble wall. She had been dreaming of this day and when it finally arrived, she could hardly sleep. Her school uniform was well-pressed and her shoes brushed to a shine. There was once a man who bought a car. He knew that his car could not run without petrol so whenever the tank was empty, he filled it with petrol. Thus, he went on driving for many kilometres. After sometime, there were such terrible noises in the engine that he had to take the car to the garage. The mechanic looked at it, shook his head and told him that it was so badly damaged that it would never again run smoothly without major repairs. This was because although he had known that the car needed petrol to keep it running, he had forgotten that it also required oil and grease to keep the vital parts of the engine running smoothly.

Many people treat their bodies in the same way. It is easy to remember to eat enough to satisfy hunger, just as it is easy to remember to put petrol in a car. But it is often forgotten that body building foods (proteins) and foods to keep the body healthy (vitamins and mineral salts) are also needed to keep the vital parts in good working order. Such foods are important for children especially when they are growing fast.

A new born baby should have the mother's milk. This means that the mother must eat plenty of good food to have sufficient milk. She should also drink a lot of milk, water and fruit juices, but not too much tea or coffee. If she does not have enough milk she should go to a hospital or health centre to learn the proper way of mixing milk with sugar and water for the baby to take.

The feeding of a baby requires special care. For example, one should never feed a baby with the bottle without proper advice from qualified people. In addition, we should ensure that babies get proper food. Drinks like tea and squash are not good for babies.

Even when a baby is breastfeeding, he must learn to feed at regular times. Some people mistakenly think that a baby cries just because he is hungry. There are many things which make a baby cry; his clothes may be wet or he may be uncomfortable and want to be turned over. Most common of all, he may have wind in his stomach. When a baby sucks, he sucks milk and wind so that his stomach becomes full of milk as well as wind. If you do not get wind out after a feed, he will become uncomfortable and soon begin to cry. When you have finished feeding him, pat him gently on the back to make him release some of the wind through the mouth. Then he will sleep peacefully.

Hapo zamani za kale, paliishi mzee mmoja aliyeitwa Maarifa. Maarifa alimwoa mke mmoja na kuweza kufanikiwa kupata mwana aliyeitwa pendo. Pendo alikuwa mtoto wa pekee katika aila hiyo. Mabonge ya nasaha aliyopewa na baba yake yaliangukia masikio yaliyotiwa nta.

Kilimo ndicho uti wa mgongo nchini Kenya. Ukulima huchangia pakubwa katika jumla ya pato la taifa. Asilimia sabini na tano ya Wakenya walio katika umri wa kufanya kazi ni wakulima ingawa nusu ya mzao haya hutumika kwa kukidhi mahitaji ya kimsingi.

Nchi ya Kenya ikiwa na chini ya asilimia ishirini ya ardhi inayofaa kwa ukulima ndiyo inayoongoza katika ukuzaji wa kitunguu na maembe kwa mataifa ya nje. Kwa ujumla, sekta ya kilimo inachangia takriban asilimia sitini na tano ya bidhaa za nchi zinazouzwa katika mataifa ya nje.

Hata hivyo ukulima wa nchi ya Kenya umekabiliwa na changamoto ainati. Ukosefu wa mvua hutatiza wakulima nchini. Hii ni kwa sababu kilimo nchini hutegemea mvua. Majira ya mvua yanaendelea kubadilika kwa kiasi cha kuyafanya yasitegemewe. Mvua inayonyesha haitoshi na mimea hukauka kabla ya kukomaa na kupata mazao. Iwapo wakulima wametayarisha mashamba na kupanda mbugu, huweza kupata hasara kubwa.

Wakulima wengi nchini hawatumii teknolojia ya kisasa ili kuboresha mapato yao. Hii ni kwa sababu utafiti hauhusishi wakulima ili kuboresha mapato yao. Wakulima wengi hivyo basi huendelea kutumia njia zilizopitwa na wakati katika uzalishaji wa mazao na hivyo kupata mapato yasiyoweza kukidhi haja ya mkulima na nchi kwa jumla.

Wadudu na magonjwa yanayoathiri mimea ni changamoto nyingine inyokabili wakulima. Wengi wao wamekosa elimu kuhusu jinsi ya kuzuia magonjwa na wadudu wanaoharibu mimea na mazao au mavuno yao. Wengi hawajui jinsi ya kuzuia wadudu wanaoyaharibu. Mahali wanamoweka mazao au mavuno yao hamfai na husababisha uharibifu unaoleta hasara kuu. Wataalamu wanaowatembelea wakulima ni wachache sana na hawafikii wakulima wengi. Jambo hili husababisha ukosefu wa ujuzi wa kutosha wa kuendeleza kilimo kwa njia za kisasa.

Wakulima wanaweza kuwa na ujuzi wa kuzuia magonjwa na wadudu wanaoharibu mimea na mazao au hata matumizi ya teknolojia ya kisasa lakini wakose fedha za kutekeleza mambo haya. Gharama ya mbegu, viuadudu na mbolea yaweza kuwa juu kwa mkulima wa kawaida.

Ukosefu wa miundomsingi mathalani barabara umesababisha usafirishaji wa mazao ya mkulima kuwa ghali. Hili hufanya mazao kuharibika mashambani na yakifika sokoni yanauzwa kwa bei duni kwa kuwa hali yake si nzuri. Hivyo basi wakulima wanaendelea kupata hasara zaidi.
